Empires need requisite time to have their days
Of halcyon wonder where all live in splendour
Instead of darkly dreaming for what they could
Have achieved in other, sunnier, better times.
We have not yet marched so far, human progress
Stunted, nullified at so many points, arrested
By our own ambitions, attrition across history
Keeping hazy the progression, slow line to glory.
Empires rise, fall, and we have stagnated,
Slaves to technological whims, the technocracy
Reigning supreme as we live upon gaps lining
The interstices of iniquity, aftermath barely
