Rise and Fall – a poem


Empires need requisite time to have their days

Of halcyon wonder where all live in splendour

Instead of darkly dreaming for what they could

Have achieved in other, sunnier, better times.


We have not yet marched so far, human progress

Stunted, nullified at so many points, arrested

By our own ambitions, attrition across history

Keeping hazy the progression, slow line to glory.


Empires rise, fall, and we have stagnated,

Slaves to technological whims, the technocracy

Reigning supreme as we live upon gaps lining

The interstices of iniquity, aftermath barely
