The Wolf’s Lair pt 1 – a poem

Only in hushed whispers are various tales

Unverified of the Wolf’s Lair told, stories

Of days centuries gone, yet haunting still

For the people of new ages to be wary of,

To fear.

Once the retreat of a brutal warlord without parallel,

Now a complex of edifices left for centuries

To topple, the exploded, bombed out ruins

Remain as brooding testament to evil, sentinels

In mute witness.

The long passage of years has seen new residents arrive,

Firing rumour, figures in animal skins, paegan sorcerers

Who have ever associated with tree and sky,

Nature and the pure animal atavistic
